First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated Jun 07, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study tracks changes in the microbiome (the community of bacteria in the body) of 500 critically ill adults admitted to the intensive care unit. Researchers want to see how these changes relate to short-term outcomes like length of hospital stay and long-term outcomes like survival and daily functioning. The goal is to better understand how critical illness affects the body's natural bacteria and how that might impact recovery.
