New ultrasound technique could rival MRI for prostate cancer detection

NCT ID NCT05220501

First seen Nov 10, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study tested whether a new, high-resolution ultrasound (micro-ultrasound) can find aggressive prostate cancers as well as MRI does. Over 800 men with suspected prostate cancer were randomly assigned to biopsy guided by micro-ultrasound, MRI, or both. The goal was to see which method best detects cancers that need treatment, potentially offering a simpler and cheaper alternative to MRI.
