Researchers watch faces for clues to unlock consciousness mysteries

NCT ID NCT06088628

Summary

This study aims to understand if tiny, involuntary facial expressions (micro-expressions) can help doctors better assess consciousness levels in patients with severe brain injuries. Researchers will show emotional videos and sounds to 200 participants (150 patients and 50 healthy people) while recording their faces, brain waves (EEG), and brain scans (MRI). The goal is to see if these micro-expressions can improve diagnosis and reveal more about how the brain works after injury.
