Experimental 'Drug Vesicles' injected into spine aim to fight lung cancer brain spread

NCT ID NCT07559097

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This early-phase trial tests whether injecting methotrexate-loaded vesicles (tiny drug-carrying particles made from patients' own tumor cells) into the spinal fluid can safely treat lung cancer that has spread to the brain lining. About 14 adults who have failed standard treatments will receive the injections on a schedule. The study first finds the safest dose, then checks if it shrinks tumors.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

methotrexate-loaded vesicles (drug-carrying particles made from patients' own tumor cells)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a new local treatment option for lung cancer that has spread to the brain lining, potentially controlling the disease and extending survival.

What could go wrong

This is a very early, small trial (14 people) testing safety and dosing first. The approach may not work or could cause serious side effects like nerve damage or infection from the spinal injections.
