Common diabetes drug may shield pregnant women from dangerous blood pressure spike

NCT ID NCT03570632

Summary

This study is testing if adding the common diabetes medication metformin to usual care can help prevent dangerous high blood pressure disorders during pregnancy in women with type 1 diabetes. Researchers are enrolling 60 pregnant women with type 1 diabetes to take either metformin or a placebo daily starting before 20 weeks of pregnancy. The main goal is to see if metformin reduces the rate of pregnancy-related high blood pressure problems like preeclampsia.
