First seen Feb 04, 2026 · Last updated Jun 06, 2026 · Updated 14 times
Summary
This study tests whether a common diabetes drug, metformin, can prevent oral leukoplakia (a precancerous mouth condition) from turning into cancer. Researchers will give 34 adults with mild to moderate dysplasia both a topical gel and oral metformin. The goal is to see if the combination can shrink or control the lesions, reducing the need for surgery and lowering cancer risk.
