Diabetes drug could be breakthrough for millions with crippling leg pain

NCT ID NCT05132439

Summary

This study is testing whether metformin, a common diabetes medication, can help Veterans with peripheral artery disease (PAD) walk farther with less leg pain. Researchers will give 200 participants either metformin or a placebo pill for 6 months to see if it improves walking distance, reduces disease progression, and decreases inflammation. The goal is to find the first effective medical treatment for this common condition that severely limits mobility.
