Common diabetes drug could ease debilitating fibromyalgia pain

NCT ID NCT05900466

Summary

This study is testing whether low-dose metformin, a common diabetes medication, can safely reduce the widespread pain, fatigue, and other symptoms of fibromyalgia. Researchers will compare metformin against a placebo pill in 72 adults with fibromyalgia to see if it helps by targeting inflammation in the nervous system. The goal is to find a new, non-addictive treatment option for this chronic condition.
