Diabetes drug tested as potential depression booster

NCT ID NCT06707012

Summary

This study is testing whether adding the diabetes medication metformin to standard antidepressant treatment helps reduce depression symptoms in obese adults who don't have diabetes. Researchers will compare 140 participants who receive either metformin or a placebo pill alongside their regular depression treatment over 36 weeks. The main goal is to see if the metformin group shows greater improvement in depression scores and certain body chemistry markers.
