Could metal detox boost chemo for tough blood cancers?

NCT ID NCT03630991

First seen Mar 16, 2026 · Last updated Jun 06, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This early-phase study is testing whether drugs that remove excess metals from the body can help control acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and related blood cancers. Researchers want to see if lowering metal levels in the bone marrow and blood can improve how well chemotherapy works. About 58 adults with these cancers will receive either edetate calcium disodium or succimer alongside their standard treatment. The main goals are to find the safest dose and check for side effects.
