Can a natural supplement change your genes? new study explores
NCT ID NCT07127445
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This completed trial looked at whether a daily dietary supplement containing oleoylethanolamide (OEA), ginger extract, and lavender essential oil can affect gene expression and health markers in 92 healthy adults aged 18-64 with a BMI of 25-30. Participants took two capsules daily for 12 weeks and provided blood and urine samples at three visits. The study measured changes in gene methylation, HbA1c, and safety labs, aiming to understand the supplement's metabolic and epigenetic impact.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- dietary supplement containing oleoylethanolamide (OEA), ginger extract, and lavender essential oil
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could help understand how certain natural compounds influence gene activity and basic health measures like weight and blood pressure.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study in healthy volunteers, so results may not apply to people with medical conditions. The supplement's effects on disease are unknown.
