Shock waves or needles? new trial pits two tennis elbow therapies Head-to-Head

NCT ID NCT07043335

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether mesotherapy (injecting a mix of medicines into the skin) works as well as shock wave therapy for tennis elbow. Fifty adults with elbow pain for at least 6 weeks will be randomly assigned to one of the two treatments. Researchers will measure pain, grip strength, and quality of life before treatment, right after, and 12 weeks later.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
mesotherapy (lidocaine, pentoxifylline, meloxicam, thiocolchicoside)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a new, non-surgical option for easing tennis elbow pain and improving function.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 50 people, so results may not apply to everyone. It compares two treatments but doesn't test against a placebo or no treatment.
