Eye test may predict antidepressant success in depression

NCT ID NCT06532604

First seen Apr 07, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study looks at whether simple eye tests (electroretinography) can predict how well antidepressants work in people with major depression. About 108 adults starting a common antidepressant will have eye tests and depression questionnaires before treatment and again at 6 and 12 weeks. The goal is to find markers that help doctors choose the right medication faster, reducing trial-and-error and improving quality of life.
