Menthol mist may spark tears, study hopes
NCT ID NCT07109609
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 28, 2026 · Updated 32 times
Summary
This study tests if menthol vapor, applied to the cheek, can trigger tear production by activating cold sensors on the eye. Thirty healthy adults will have menthol or a placebo applied near one eye, and researchers will measure if tears overflow. If it works, menthol could become a new way to ease dry eyes without eye drops.
