Mind over fear: imagining success may boost social confidence

NCT ID NCT06977087

First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study tests whether a simple mental exercise—imagining yourself approaching a feared social situation—can increase motivation and pleasure in people with social anxiety. About 58 participants will learn about anxiety and then either practice mental imagery or a verbal reasoning task. The goal is to see if this technique helps them feel more willing to face real-life situations like giving a compliment or asking for a restaurant recommendation.
