Sleep hormone trial aims to stop Post-Surgery confusion in elderly

NCT ID NCT03785158

Summary

This study tested if melatonin, a natural sleep hormone, could prevent post-operative delirium—a sudden, severe confusion—in elderly patients after major surgery. It was a small pilot study with 88 participants to see if a larger trial was possible. The goal was to check if taking melatonin around surgery time is safe and practical, and if it might reduce the risk of this serious complication.
