Polio virus weaponized to fight tough melanoma

NCT ID NCT04577807

Summary

This study tested a new treatment called lerapolturev, which is a modified polio virus, for people with advanced skin melanoma. The cancer in these patients had stopped responding to standard immunotherapy drugs (anti-PD-1). Researchers wanted to see if injecting the virus directly into tumors, either alone or combined with another immunotherapy, could help control the cancer. The main goals were to see if tumors shrank and to check the safety of this approach.
