Measles mystery: why the virus both weakens and strengthens immunity

NCT ID NCT07267585

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study looks at the puzzling way measles affects the immune system—it can temporarily weaken it, making people more prone to other infections, while also providing lifelong protection against measles itself. Researchers will track 300 adults who either get measles or receive the MMR vaccine to see how their immune memory changes over time. The goal is to better understand how long immune suppression lasts and how the body builds defenses against measles.
