Scientists probe Measles' immune amnesia: why recovery leaves you vulnerable for years
NCT ID NCT07267585
Summary
This study aims to understand a puzzling effect of measles: the virus provides lifelong protection against itself but also weakens the immune system's memory of other diseases for years, a phenomenon called 'immune amnesia.' Researchers will recruit 300 adults, including people who get measles during an outbreak and those who are vaccinated, to track changes in their immune cells and antibodies over time. The goal is to measure how much pre-existing immunity is lost, how long this suppression lasts, and how the body rebuilds its defenses.
