Can a simple neck massage boost cough strength after esophageal surgery?
NCT ID NCT07518680
First seen Apr 13, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This small pilot study at Shanghai Zhongshan Hospital will test whether pressing the Tian Tu acupoint (located on the neck) can improve coughing strength in 30 adults who have had esophageal surgery. Participants will cough on their own, then after a rest period, cough while the acupoint is pressed. The study measures cough airflow and abdominal pressure to see if the massage makes coughing more effective. This is an early feasibility trial to help design larger studies.
