European registry to reveal best surgery for leaky bladder in men
NCT ID NCT02757274
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study follows over 1000 men across Europe who had surgery for stress urinary incontinence (leaking urine with coughing, sneezing, or activity). The two surgeries being tracked are the artificial urinary sphincter and the male sling. Researchers will collect data for up to 10 years to see how well each surgery works and how long the benefits last.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
artificial urinary sphincter or male sling
What this could lead to
If successful, this registry could help doctors understand which surgery works best and for whom, improving treatment decisions for male stress incontinence.
What could go wrong
This is an observational registry, not a controlled trial, so it cannot prove one surgery is better. Results depend on how consistently centers report data.
