Scientists use live mosquitoes to pinpoint malaria infection threshold
NCT ID NCT07257965
Summary
This study aims to find the minimum number of bites from malaria-infected mosquitoes needed to reliably cause infection in healthy Thai adults. Researchers will deliberately expose small groups of volunteers to 1, 2, or 3 mosquito bites in a controlled hospital setting to measure the resulting infection. The goal is to create a safer, more realistic model for testing future malaria vaccines, as using too many bites might overwhelm a vaccine's protective effect.
