Malaria drugs under watch: resistance study in kenya
NCT ID NCT07362498
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This completed study in western Kenya looked at how well different malaria drugs work and whether the parasites are becoming resistant. Researchers tested four artemisinin-based combination therapies across 28 health facilities over 28 months, involving 316 people with uncomplicated malaria. The goal was to see if using multiple first-line treatments is practical and acceptable, and to track resistance markers in the malaria parasite.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Artemether + Lumefantrine and Dihydroartemisinin-piperaquine
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help health officials choose the best combination of malaria drugs to slow down resistance and keep treatments effective longer.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a test of a new cure. The findings may not apply to other regions, and drug resistance patterns can change over time.
