New dye could spare thousands from unnecessary lymph node removal

NCT ID NCT06868238

Summary

This study looks at whether a special dye called Magtrace can help women with non-invasive breast cancer (DCIS) avoid an extra surgery to remove lymph nodes. Normally, women having a mastectomy get this lymph node surgery just in case cancer has spread, but it's often not needed. Magtrace stays in the lymph nodes for weeks, so doctors can wait for final lab results and only do the lymph node surgery if invasive cancer is actually found. About 30 adults with DCIS planning mastectomy will take part.
