NCT ID NCT05806996
First seen Jun 29, 2026 · Last updated Jun 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether giving magnesium through a vein can prevent or reduce bladder spasms after urologic surgery. About 120 adults having bladder procedures will receive either magnesium or a placebo. Researchers will compare how many people in each group have spasms and how severe they are.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Magnesium (intravenous)
What this could lead to
If effective, magnesium could offer a simple, low-cost option to prevent or reduce painful bladder spasms after urologic surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small Phase 2 trial, so results may not be conclusive. Magnesium may not work better than placebo, and side effects like low blood pressure or nausea are possible.
