Scientists test if you need the 'Trip' for magic mushrooms to work

NCT ID NCT06768944

Summary

This study aims to understand if the psychedelic 'trip' itself is necessary for psilocybin (the active compound in magic mushrooms) to improve mood and well-being. Researchers will give 128 healthy adults psilocybin along with either a placebo or a medication (risperidone) that blocks the psychedelic experience. They will then measure changes in stress, mood, and thinking over the following month.
