Summary

This study aimed to find out if live Lyme disease bacteria can still be present in people after they finish antibiotic treatment, which might explain why some people have lasting symptoms. Researchers used a method called xenodiagnosis, where clean, lab-raised ticks were placed on the skin of 45 participants (including people recently treated for Lyme and healthy volunteers) to feed and then be tested for the bacteria. The main goal was to see if this tick-based method could successfully detect an ongoing infection that standard blood tests might miss.
