New drug trial aims to reduce need for blood transfusions

Summary

This study is testing a drug called luspatercept to see if it is safe and effective for treating anemia in people with two specific blood disorders: myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) or beta-thalassemia. The goal is to help patients who currently need regular red blood cell transfusions to reduce their need for them. The study is enrolling 85 participants in India who have not responded well to or cannot take standard anemia treatments.
