New breathing strategy shields heart in lung injury patients

Summary
This study tested a new way to use a breathing machine to protect the heart in patients with severe lung injury (ARDS). The method uses pressure measurements inside the lungs to guide ventilation. 40 adults on breathing machines for less than 72 hours took part. The goal was to see if this approach could reduce strain on the right side of the heart.
