First seen May 01, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study tested a new approach using a lung ultrasound score to guide treatment decisions after removing a breathing tube in ICU patients who were on a ventilator for more than 48 hours. The goal was to see if this method could reduce the number of patients who develop serious breathing distress and need a breathing tube again or noninvasive breathing support. The study involved 483 adults and compared the ultrasound-guided strategy to standard care.
