Doctors test new ultrasound to protect lungs of critically ill patients

NCT ID NCT03405779

Summary

This small pilot study aims to test a new ultrasound tool that measures strain on the lungs of critically ill patients who are on breathing machines. The goal is to gather initial data to see if this tool can help doctors detect when a patient's lungs are being overstretched by the ventilator, which can cause injury. If successful in future studies, this could help guide safer ventilator settings to protect patients' lungs.
