Simple scan could give doctors early warning for preemie breathing crises

NCT ID NCT07216053

Summary

This study aims to see if a simple, bedside lung ultrasound scan can predict which late preterm babies will develop serious breathing problems in their first two days of life. Researchers will enroll 300 babies born between 34 and 37 weeks who are initially breathing on their own or with minimal help. They will compare three different scoring systems from the ultrasound to see which one best forecasts the need for more intensive breathing support.
