New hope to protect young lungs after Life-Saving transplants

NCT ID NCT04655508

Summary

This study tested whether a specific inhaled medication (a combination of fluticasone and salmeterol) could help improve lung function in children aged 6-17 who had received a stem cell transplant and were showing early signs of lung decline. The goal was to see if this treatment could prevent the development of a serious, chronic lung condition called Bronchiolitis Obliterans Syndrome. Children were randomly assigned to receive either the real medication or a placebo (inactive treatment) for six months, and their lung function was closely monitored.
