Smart ventilator trial aims to stop dangerous lung collapse after surgery

NCT ID NCT06446544

Summary

This study is testing if a new monitoring method during chest surgery can help prevent lung collapse, a common and serious complication. Researchers will use a special ventilator to watch lung volume in real-time and perform personalized breathing exercises to keep the lungs open. They will compare this approach to just monitoring without the exercises to see which better prevents lung problems after surgery.
