25-Year study reveals which back surgery patients may need more extensive procedures
NCT ID NCT07489508
First seen Mar 25, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This study looked back at 246 patients aged 50+ with lumbar spinal stenosis who had either a less invasive surgery (tubular decompression) or a more extensive fusion (TLIF) over 25 years. The goal was to see how often the less invasive approach was enough and what factors led to needing fusion later. No new treatments were given; researchers simply analyzed existing medical records to guide future surgical decisions.
