Can a Slow-Release chemo implant tackle an untreatable brain tumor?
NCT ID NCT07767110
First seen Aug 17, 2026 · Last updated Aug 17, 2026
Summary
This trial is testing whether a new formulation of the chemotherapy drug cisplatin, called LSAM-Cisplatin, can be safely infused directly into the brain tumors of children and young adults with diffuse midline glioma (DMG), including diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG). The treatment is given as a single infusion during a surgical procedure guided by real-time MRI. The study aims to find the safest dose and to see if the drug can shrink the tumor or slow its growth.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- LSAM-Cisplatin, a slow-release form of the chemotherapy drug cisplatin, given as a single infusion directly into the tumor during MRI-guided surgery
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this approach could offer a new treatment option for a type of brain tumor that is currently very hard to treat, potentially improving outcomes for children and young adults.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early-phase trial with a small number of participants, so the treatment may not be effective or may cause significant side effects. The study is primarily designed to test safety, not to prove benefit.
