Could a Quarter-Dose steroid be enough to tame Kids' croup?

NCT ID NCT06272383

Summary

This study tested whether a much lower dose of the steroid dexamethasone works as well as the standard dose for treating croup in children. Croup is a common viral infection that causes throat swelling and a barking cough, making breathing difficult. Researchers compared a 0.15 mg/kg dose to the standard 0.6 mg/kg dose in 50 children to see if the lower dose is equally effective at controlling symptoms and preventing return hospital visits, while potentially reducing side effects.
