Could a lower dose of a common heart drug be safer and just as effective?

NCT ID NCT07273994

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a lower daily dose (100 mg) of the heart medication amiodarone can keep the heart beating normally after an electrical shock treatment for atrial fibrillation, compared to the standard dose (200 mg). The goal is to see if the lower dose works just as well but causes fewer side effects. About 312 adults with persistent atrial fibrillation will take part and be followed for 12 to 18 months.
