Could a daily baby aspirin after delivery heal blood vessels in preeclampsia?
NCT ID NCT03667326
First seen Jan 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 24 times
Summary
This study tests whether taking a low-dose aspirin (81 mg) daily for three weeks after giving birth can improve blood vessel function in women who had severe preeclampsia. About 100 women will be randomly assigned to receive aspirin or a placebo. The main goal is to see if aspirin helps blood vessels relax and widen better, which could lower the risk of future heart problems.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
low-dose aspirin (81 mg)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple, low-cost way to help blood vessels recover after preeclampsia and reduce long-term heart risks.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial (100 participants) testing a short-term effect on a lab measure (blood vessel function), not on hard outcomes like heart disease. Aspirin may not improve recovery or could cause bleeding.
