Budget eye scanner matches High-End devices in small study

NCT ID NCT05530460

First seen Dec 08, 2025 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study tested a new, low-cost eye scanner (OCT device) to see if it can take clear pictures of the retina, the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye. Eleven healthy adults participated, and researchers compared images from the low-cost device to those from a standard commercial machine. The goal was to see if the cheaper device could produce images good enough for routine eye exams, potentially making this technology more accessible.
