Eye stroke may signal future heart trouble: 15,000-Person study seeks answers
NCT ID NCT07482228
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study follows 15,000 people who had a retinal artery occlusion, or 'eye stroke,' to track their long-term risk of heart attack, stroke, and death. Researchers will analyze medical records from a Korean national database to see how different treatments, like blood thinners and statins, affect these outcomes. The goal is to better understand the link between eye strokes and future cardiovascular events.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could clarify which medications (like blood thinners or statins) best reduce long-term heart attack and stroke risk after an eye stroke.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a controlled trial, so it can show links but not prove cause and effect. Results may not apply outside Korea.
