Blood test and frailty may predict post-surgery confusion in seniors

NCT ID NCT07322744

First seen Jan 08, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study looked at whether a blood test called the lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR) can help predict postoperative delirium (confusion) in older adults having surgery. Researchers also considered whether frailty (physical weakness) changes this link. Over 6,400 people aged 65 and older took part, and the study found that both low LMR and frailty are linked to higher risk of delirium. The goal was to better understand risk factors, not to test a treatment.
