Simple scan could spare thousands from uncomfortable scope tests
NCT ID NCT05044663
Summary
This study tested whether a non-invasive scan measuring liver and spleen stiffness could accurately predict which patients with advanced fatty liver disease have dangerous swollen veins in their esophagus that need treatment. Researchers enrolled 325 patients to see if this scan could help avoid unnecessary endoscopy procedures. The goal was to validate guidelines that suggest some patients can safely skip invasive screening based on their scan results.
