Liver scan may predict deadly failure after major surgery

NCT ID NCT02753517

First seen Apr 25, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study looked at whether a special liver scan (hepatobiliary scintigraphy) can predict the risk of liver failure after removing a large part of the liver. 326 adults with non-cirrhotic livers who needed major liver surgery took part. The goal was to see if the scan gives better information than a standard CT scan to help doctors plan safer surgeries.
