Internal scan aims to predict deadly bleeding in liver patients

NCT ID NCT04155398

Summary

This study is testing a new type of internal ultrasound to see if it can better predict dangerous complications in people with chronic liver disease. The procedure measures the stiffness of the liver and spleen through the stomach wall, which may be more accurate than external scans, especially for heavier patients. The goal is to identify patients at highest risk for life-threatening bleeding and other complications before they happen.
