Could liver cancer patients skip the hospital stay? new trial tests outpatient care
NCT ID NCT06990659
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jul 17, 2026 · Updated 5 times
Summary
This study tests whether people with liver cancer can be safely treated as outpatients instead of staying in the hospital after a procedure that delivers treatment directly to the liver's blood supply. About 206 patients will be randomly assigned to either outpatient or standard inpatient care. Researchers will measure patient satisfaction, safety, and costs over 7 months to see which approach works better.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could show that outpatient care is just as safe and more satisfying for liver cancer patients, potentially changing standard hospital practices.
- What could go wrong
- This is a care organization study, not a drug trial, so it won't directly improve cancer outcomes. Results may not apply to all hospitals or patient groups.
