Foam or liquid? new study tests best way to treat spider veins
NCT ID NCT07162844
First seen Jun 26, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study compares two common treatments for spider and reticular veins: liquid sclerotherapy and foam sclerotherapy, both using the drug polidocanol. Some participants will also receive a herbal gel after the procedure. The trial includes 508 adults with mild venous disease (C1) and will measure how much the veins improve in appearance, as well as any side effects. The goal is to find out which method works best and if the herbal gel adds any benefit.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- polidocanol (a sclerosing agent)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could help doctors choose the best form of sclerotherapy (liquid or foam) and whether adding herbal gel improves results for spider and reticular veins.
- What could go wrong
- This is a single-center trial with no blinding, so results may be biased. The herbal gel's effect is uncertain, and side effects like bruising or pigmentation changes are possible.
