Blood test may spare lung cancer patients from painful biopsies

NCT ID NCT02372448

First seen Mar 28, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study looked at whether a blood test (liquid biopsy) can detect a specific genetic change (ALK rearrangement) in lung cancer cells circulating in the blood. The goal is to see if this non-invasive method works as well as a traditional tissue biopsy to guide treatment decisions. The study involved 206 adults with advanced lung cancer and compared results from blood samples to standard tumor tissue tests.
