First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested a device that uses UVA and blue light to treat bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections. 38 women received one or two light treatments. Researchers checked if symptoms improved and if the vaginal microbiome became healthier. The goal is to find an alternative to antibiotics that avoids drug resistance.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
UVA and blue light therapy device
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a non-drug option for common vaginal infections, helping to avoid antibiotics and reduce resistance.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early study with only 38 participants and no comparison group. The light treatment may not work for everyone, and long-term effects are unknown.
