Doctors test light meter to guide cancer treatment during surgery

NCT ID NCT03678350

Summary

This early-phase study tested whether a light measurement system could safely guide a special cancer treatment during surgery. The treatment involves giving patients a light-sensitive drug, then using laser light during surgery to activate it against cancer cells in the chest lining. Researchers enrolled 9 patients with mesothelioma or lung cancer that had spread to the chest lining to check for side effects and see if the light measurement helped doctors decide how much treatment to give.
